I find making lists helps me organize all the things I have to do. There is just a simplicity about making lists that appeals to me. It is ordered, it is numbered, it is a summary of all my open tasks.
What are other ways to organize your life? I suppose you could take a task at hand and ignore everything else till its done. I think this could work for some people but I need a plan and I need to be able to see the end and know that there are still more tasks for me to do. I tend to take my time doing things if i do not have a plan and a deadline. I can also cut out things which are not important to make time for important stuff and then if time permits, do the things in the list with the lowest priority.
Looking at life like a list also helps to deal with depression and failure. If you have the next thing to do then you tend not to focus on the things which are over. Lists also help me keep motivated. This is really an extention of how to cope with failure. If I can do something else which could give me success then I can say that it is not over yet. I must remember to get up and keep moving through failure because the story has not yet been written. I must keep reminding myself of this so I do not stop.
